Beautiful porcelain lady figurine by Cordey. Stands 14-1/2" high and dressed in a textured fabric-like gown with blue roses, ribbons and lace. Her eyes are downcast and arms held in front as if yearning for a child to hold. Wonderful detail work down to her tiny slippered food and the golden accented base. Numbered on the bottom 5061 15. She is in very good condition and a real prize for a collector or for that corner of your home looking for a bit of "soft femininity".
Cordey China Company was fonded in 1942 in Flemington, NY By Polish immigrant Boleslaw Cybis.Fewer than a dozen skilled artists made elegant lamps and figurines that sold both nationwide and abroad.
Pieces were often delicate figurines with ruffles and rocco accents using a process where real lace was dripped in a liquified clay for a dresden like effect. These were highly prized and are still very collectible. Not all pieces were signed but they are usually well recognizeable. Difficult to find in perfect condition due to the fragility of the applied ornamentation but sought after even with minor damage.
