Item Description:

John Paul Jones McCormick ( 1747-1792) Decanter would make a great gift for that Navy man in your life or family.

Note the great color and detail on this porcelain decanter with John reaching for his sword and the cannon next to him.

During the hot summer of 1775 a slim smallish young Scotsman made his way to Philadelphia where the Continental Congress was organzing revolution.  Presenting himself to Congress he was given a commission and service as a First Lieutenant aboard the Glascow.  Proving his worth in a sea battle he was given a ship of his.  After that another and eventually the famous "Bonhomme Richard" ship named after Ben Franklin and acclaimed himself even more going up against a much bigger British ship which also outnumbered in guns.  He overcame this disadvantage with the famous words "I have not yet begun to fight' and was victorious.

A hero's welcome awaited him in Paris and back home in the United States.  More detailed biography on the side of the box.

Decanter is in excellent condition, with foam liner and box -- no liquor.
