Smithsonian 1905 Graduation Doll, one of four dolls in the series on our web site.

The dress on the doll representing 1905 depicts a gown which was worn to the Smith College graduation of that year.  Lavender satin dress which is eloborately trimmed with lace in the romantic style of the time. The doll's underwear includes a chemise, pantalets and petticoat cut in the style of the day. 

The dolls blond hair is swept up from her face and she wears a hat trimmed with ribbon to match her dress.

The doll carries a 1905 college graduation program.  Her shoes are sculpted with low heels and a strap fastening.

This doll is one of four issued in observance of the 150th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution.  Each doll has been individually created by a Richmond, Virginia sculptor to represent ladies wearing replicas of historic gowns in the collection of the National Museum of American History.  Under the supervision of Museum curators, recreations of the full sized dresses have been painstakingly designed and made in Richmond by the United State Historical Society.  Each doll is beautifully packaged and is accompanied by a booklet describing the fashion of her time, a hang-tag and a stand.
