Item Description:
This Toleware Document Box is in fair to good condition, considering its age. It is early American tinsmith work, "styled after the japanned tinware of the English manufacturers..." (Source: "The Collector's Book of Boxes", by Marian Klamkin, 1972 edition, p. 97) The frame is in good condition with the original brass handle. It has been heavily used; there is some rust inside the box. The colors are reds and greens, with gray and black accents, over a black background.
