Carved Marble "Spirit" Statue

An exquisite large (and heavy) hand carved and polished Marble "Spirit" Statue.  Inscripted on the rear of the base is "Bulliana", which lead us to belief this statue comes from the village of Bullana, India.  In some Eastern cultures (what we call a studio) a group of artists come together in cooperation and use the name of the village as an identifying mark. 

The small face is brass surrounded by a flowing marble hood that comes down into a marble robe and on the first base carvings are  made to look like rock or block outcroppings.  This all sits on a contrasting six sided more white base of marble.  The marble color itself goes from greyish, with some brownish tint, to off white base color.

This statue weight 22 points. The height is 18 inches with a base measuring 8" x 10".

Here are the appraiser comments:  "The quality of the marble appears to be remarkable.  The size alone is more than remarkable...marble is not an inexpensive or eary material with which to work. I estimate a retail or replacement cost of: $1,100."
