Lacquer Box -- Romanova Lady Hand Painted

One of the many lacquer boxes we recently obtained from an estate.  This box is a portrait of a beautiful blonde lady. 

The box has the following inscription of the inside cover: "Pedockuho Hebecra hln Pomahoba".  The original cost of this box was $125.

This box is excellent inside and out.  Any marks of white in the photo's are glare from the lighting, not imperfections.

“Russian lacquer boxes are some of the most beautiful and distinctive of that country’s art in the last century.  The boxes feature some of the most intricate miniature paintings with varying themes including portraits, fairy tales, country-life, landscapes and art masterpieces.

The boxes get their names from the many layers of lacquer that are applied to both the inside and outside of the boxes. 

It can take six to eight weeks to craft a box out of papier mache.  This material can withstand changes in atmospheric conditions and avoid cracking.
