Very brightly hand painted Japanese Four Panel Wall Screen or Divider. This screen is wood and from first half of the 20th Century. The application of the paint is very raised with good depth on this screen.
Great scenes of samuri warriors, mountains, trees and pagoda's in the background. Each panel has a different scene. I believe this was designed as a wall screen although it could be used as a low room divider with panels angled.
Measurement for wall hanging is: 58" wide, 49 1/2" tall and 3/4" thick. Each panel is 14 1/2" x 49 1/2" x 3/4"
This screen looks great hanging in our furniture showroom and getting lot's of attention.
The screen was appraised for a retail price of $800 and wholesale of $400. We have it listed just below the wholesale price.
Note some paint flaked off on raised painted areas. Note black areas on panel 2. Looks like it might have coated with type of shellac in the past. Back is showing some wear and small holes where hooks were placed for hanging the screen. Also, note upper corners have some abrasion. Overal the raising enamel type painting is excellent with great color and detail except for minor chipping here and there. The chipping not noticeable unless you begin to examine the screen closely.
