Item Description:
These were popular in the nineteenth century. The hairpin went into the popular pompadour hairstyles of the period. The glasses were worn without earpieces by pinching the bridge of the nose. The chain then came down from the hairpin and attached to the side of the glasses. Most of these were gold filled but not marked. The hairpin measures about 2 1/2" long x 1/2" at the top, which looks like a partial heart. The chain and fastener are about 13 1/2" long. The hairpin has a nice design in the middle with an attractive flattened design. This item is in very good condition, and these continue to be harder & harder to find.
